Over the past few weeks, there’s been some exciting movement behind the scenes. Not only have two new SEs been discovered and added to the list, but the most significant development comes directly from HSV themselves.
I reached out to HSV to request any available information on both the HSV Jackaroo and the Jackaroo SE. A special thanks to Andrew Purcell at HSV for responding to my enquiry and providing valuable documentation, which I’ll be uploading to the website as time permits.
The highlight? We now have confirmation of every HSV Jackaroo ever built.
So, what’s been added?
Firstly, the two prototype vehicles created for the 1992 Australian International Motor Show have been officially recognised and included in the database. These carry the build numbers JAC1 and JAC2—JAC1 finished in Silver, and JAC2 in Radiant Red.
Following those, we now have details for the 79 production HSV Jackaroos, starting from Build 001 through to Build 082. Of these, three—Builds 003, 004, and 063—were not publicly released but still have documented build dates and Holden order numbers. One notable standout is Build 004, the only known vehicle in a non-red colour, listed as "PLAT", likely referring to Platinum Metallic (382N or K023). This lighter, cooler silver finish may have been intended for a fleet or export market and is almost unheard of on HSV variants.
For the SE Jackaroos, build numbers span from 001 to 238. However, four vehicles—Builds 014, 165, 178, and 235—were never completed.
This brings the official total to 318 HSV Jackaroo vehicles across all variants.
Additionally, I now have access to a complete list of build dates and Holden order numbers. This data allows me to check the authentication of a vehicle (Prior to requesting documentation from HSV), and I’m currently working on integrating a VIN decoder into the website.
Huge thanks again to HSV for their support and the information provided—this is a major step forward in preserving and documenting a unique chapter in Australian automotive history.
