SE #085 has been circulating for years, with its first online sighting (as far as I can trace) dating back to 2010. While it’s not the earliest Jackaroo I have history on, this one has certainly spent the most time in the spotlight. Most recently, it appeared in a write-up on tradeuniquecars.com.au though it was incorrectly identified there.
For clarity, #085 is an SE model, which replaced the XS (the top spec below the Monterey). It is not one of the original 79 HSV Jackaroos built in 1993 off the base S model.
This particular car is an automatic, so prospective owners should keep in mind the quirks of the 4L30E gearbox (see my write-up for what to expect if yours decides to “Chernobyl” itself). That said, they’re still a very comfortable drive when maintained properly.
The current seller has it listed at $3,500 and has already invested in some key mechanical work, including a new front suspension, exhaust, and brake booster. The vehicle has its service books.
From the photos, one detail stands out: it’s missing its correct HSV-stamped SV5000-style wheels, currently wearing Monterey rims instead. If memory serves, a previous owner actually bought this car specifically to swap those original wheels onto his red ’93 HSV Jackaroo.
Cosmetically, it presents about as you’d expect for a 30+ year old example faded paint, peeling clear coat, and general age-related wear. But overall, the body looks sound, and the car remains eligible for club registration in all states.
A decent opportunity for someone wanting a genuine SE to tidy up and get back on the road.
